Here are some of our favorite resources to guide and support you reel in lifelong reader!


BOOKS

Esme Raji Codell

Ms. Codell has created an amazing website - The Planet Esme, blog - The Planet Esme Plan, and book - How To Get Your Child To Love Reading all working to help you help your child love to read. Her book is a must have for parents who want to create a love of books in their home. So many great ideas! The book can be searched by subjects and authors as well as titles.

If you are not yet convinced of the power that reading aloud has on people then this is a MUST read. The Read Aloud Handbook provides amazing facts and figures about the power of reading aloud. Mr. Trealese's website features excerpts from his books, continues on the books lists of great reads for every age, and presents his lecture information.


WEBSITES

Daddy Read - This site aims to provide great reading suggestions for children age 0-6. The site was started by two dads who loved to read to their children. They noticed that when the children were old enough to listen to chapter books finding ones that were good, simple, and suitable - was tough. The website was born out of this search. Check out the article on why reading chapter books can be beneficial to 3-6 year olds - A Short Guide To Reading Aloud Chapter Books To Preschoolers. A variety of book lists links can be find in the right hand side bar.

Unplug Your Kids - This site is a great place to look for all sorts of activities to do with your kids. The site hosts a weekly unplugged challenge which is a lot of fun. The Unplugged Mom has also reviewed a few chapter books she found suitable for her younger kid.










Jacket Flap - Connect with children's book authors, illustrators, publishers, librarians, booksellers, bloggers, editors and agents.So much information here!

Vintage Kids' Books My Kid Loves - Take a stroll down memory lane and see inside the pages of some great vintage children's books. A new posted daily. Also check out the sites etsy shop which sells some of these vintage treasures.

 
Whatsthatbook - Have you forgotten the name of a book you once read. Post here and let others help you out - or even see if you can help reconnect someone with that book from the past. 
Reading Rainbow - Take a look at the books that you may have seen on the popular PBS show Reading Rainbow.
ACQUIRING BOOKS

Indie Bound - a site for all things independent. Hop on over to their site and find your local independent book seller.

Paper Back Swap - "Save Money - Swap Books". It is like a giant pool of friends all sharing and swapping books. Great way to recycle and pass on something you are done with. For every book you send to a new home - get a credit to get something new for you!

Google Books - Search and view partial previews of books online.
Tumble Book Library - Read and preview children's books online. "e-books for e-kids". This is a subscription based service
